Birthday Beer Tasting Recap
I had the pleasure of leading a beer tasting for someone's birthday on Saturday night and it was a great time. I brought a typical light to dark tasting and was fortunate enough to have some great fresh hoppy beers with me as well. I also brought a special surprise for the guest honor because what's party without a surprise? I was in a small apartment that had a few rugrats crawling around so I kept the intro section short and included the additional details as I talked throu

A safe play by Sierra Nevada
If you're in the know in the beer world you've noticed that over the last year old school styles of sour wheat beers have been popping up from just about every brewery out there. I've already expressed my undying love for Ithaca's Cayuga Cruiser and thanks to my roommate or girlfriend, whatever you want to call her, my fridge is almost never void of Lost Nation or Westbrook's Gose. They're refreshingly tart styles that are usually low in alcohol and while best paired with war

Tasting Recap: CF Metropolis
A very belated recap of a beer tasting I lead as part of a "Guy's Night" event at Crossfit Metropolis in East Harlem. Along with fitness another huge goal of Crossfit is building a community so most gyms will often have social events for their members. On a Friday night back in August I hauled up a bunch beers for everyone to taste after powering through the workout below which is a 9/11 hero workout: 9 Rounds of:
11 Box Jumps
3 Hang Power Cleans
4 Front Squats
3 Shoulder

On one of our early dates my girlfriend went for a run over the Tri-borough (or RFK Bridge, whatever) which terminated at the brewery to quench our thirst. She had a variety of the Kim, I believe Hibiscus which kicked off her torrid love affair with sours

Beer is ready to be consumed once it leaves the brewery and the general rule of thumb is that you should drink it fresh, sometimes VERY fresh. This is correct for the vast majority of beers but there are certain instances where the flavors in the beer will become more complex as the beer ages under the right conditions. Rather than wasting my breathe telling you all the nu

Beer Tasting Recap:
This was a private tasting that a friend hosted for some business colleagues and I brought the basics to navigate through a beer 101 course. I included four beers in the actual tasting but as you can see in the picture below a few people brought their own beers which made the experience even more fun. For the guided tasting I brought Boulevard - Tank 7 Farmhouse Ale, Westbrook - Gose, Stone - Enjoy By 12.25.2015 and AleSmith - Speedway Stout. Below is the summary of people's
